Hand Sanitizer is a liquid or gel used to decrease infectious agents or microbes on hand. Soap with water also cleanses hand by destroying microbes on hand. But in general parlance sanitizer is considered to be the best to kill microbes.
Sanitizers typically contain some combination of isopropyl alcohol, ethanol or n-propanol. Best sanitizers have 60-95% alcohol. Glycerol is included in the formulation to prevent drying of the skin and to give a soft texture to the product. It may also contain colorants and fragrances. This enhances the aesthetics and appeal to consumers.
Nowadays, many alcohol-free sanitizers are also available but they may not equally work for all classes of germs.
Sanitizer kills all microbial organisms. For effective sanitization of hand (i.e. for healthcare), rub the sanitizer on palm, back, between fingers, nails and wrist for about 30seconds. Take care that excessive use of sanitizer will cause dryness of skin, cracks and bleed. This allows germs to enter the body.
Common brands currently available in the market are Lifebuoy, Dettol, Dabur and many more. These are available in pump-type as well as squeeze-type bottles for easy usage.
